The Role
The firm’s Melbourne-based Financial Lines team is seeking a Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join its Construction Professional Indemnity practice. This candidate can be based in either Sydney or Melbourne CBD. This role will involve defending claims on behalf of insurers and construction professionals, including engineers, architects, and other design professionals, as well as providing coverage advice to insurers.
Working closely with a Partner specialising in construction-related professional indemnity matters, the successful candidate will be involved in high-profile litigation and advisory work. With the Partner currently leading a team of seven fee earners, this role presents an opportunity to work within a well-supported and high-performing team.

- Managing complex professional indemnity litigation, including claims involving construction defects, negligence, and contract disputes.
- Providing strategic advice to insurers and construction professionals on policy coverage and risk management.
- Handling court proceedings, mediation, and alternative dispute resolution processes.
- Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers, contributing to the ongoing development of the team.
- Working across different areas of law and with multiple Partners, ensuring diverse and stimulating work.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years' PAE with experience in construction professional indemnity, construction litigation, or insurance law.
- Strong technical expertise in professional negligence and policy coverage matters.
- Excellent drafting, advocacy, and negotiation skills.
- The ability to manage complex litigation independently while also collaborating within a team.
- A commercial and strategic mindset, with the ability to provide practical legal solutions.
- A desire to be part of a progressive and rapidly growing firm.
- Admission to practice in Australia (sponsorship available for international candidates).
- Sponsorship available – the firm has a strong track record of hiring and supporting international lawyers, particularly from the UK.

- Billable hours target of 6.8 hours per day, ensuring a sustainable workload.
