The Opportunity
Are you passionate about understanding the intricate dance between pollinators and plants? The Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Pollination for Native Seed to join their dynamic research team. This exciting opportunity is supported by the Ian Potter Foundation grant for the project entitled “Research and development to build best practice into native seed production in a changing world”. This project will aim improve understanding of animal pollination and plant reproductive biology in native seed production.

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will conduct original research on pollinators in native seed production areas to understand how different horticultural practices and designs influence pollinator visitation and seed yields. Pollinator visitation and behaviour will be characterised to estimate pollen dispersal and mating patterns through innovative fieldwork techniques (plantings, exclusions) and technologies (eDNA, cameras). You will communicate findings at scientific meetings, publish research in high-impact international journals and liaise with and provide updated to industry stakeholders and funders. Additionally, you’ll have opportunities for career mentoring, teaching, student co-supervision, and leadership development.

This is full-time, fixed-term position for 2 years. You will be predominantly based at the Hawkesbury Campus of Western Sydney University (Richmond, New South Wales) where Greening Australia has established seed production areas. Some field work will take place in Western Australia and will require the successful applicant to drive a motor car.

About You
We’re looking for a candidate with a PhD degree or equivalent professional experience in a research field related to pollinator biology or plant pollination. You will have demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience in entomology and pollination biology, including collecting and analysing data from field experiments. You have strong statistical skills and are comfortable using relevant statistical platforms, preferably R, and have a strong grasp of data management and reproducible research practices. Possession of a valid NSW drivers licence is essential for field work.

Remuneration Package: Academic Level A $106,765 to $128,989 p.a. (comprising Salary of $90,218 to $108,997 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading)
