ROLE PURPOSE

This position involves maintaining and repairing heavy commercial fleet vehicles, including buses and trucks, to ensure they remain safe, reliable, and roadworthy. All work must comply with relevant acts, regulations, company policies, procedures, and the Maintenance Management System.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform preventative maintenance to keep vehicles in optimal condition and ensure their availability for operational needs.
  • Conduct timely repairs to service the fleet efficiently and promptly.
  • Handle maintenance and repairs on engines and transmissions, addressing defects and faults quickly.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs on ticket machines.
  • Respond to breakdowns, call-outs, and general repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Service and repair air-conditioning (AC) systems, including periodic testing to meet manufacturer specifications and minor AC parts checks (gas work not permitted without authorization).
  • Conduct diagnostic work and program changes using computers to ensure temperatures are appropriate for seasonal conditions.
  • Ensure panel and/or glass repairs comply with QT/RTA requirements and company standards.
  • Maintain electrical systems according to your experience and training, seeking guidance as needed.
  • Perform brake tests (if equipment is available), conduct wheel rotations, and ensure full compliance with QT/RTA requirements and manufacturer specifications.
  • Regularly service vehicles according to company policies and procedures.
  • Mentor and assist apprentices and trade assistants, focusing on their safety and competency development.
  • Accurately record work orders daily for all maintenance tasks, including work conducted, labor times, and parts allocation on daily work order sheets and the workshop diary.
  • Assist with part stock control, ordering, and security.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Trade qualification, Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or equivalent.
  • Previous mechanical experience in maintaining and repairing a heavy commercial fleet (buses and trucks).
  • Medium-rigid license is essential; heavy-rigid license is preferable.
  • Forklift license is preferable.
  • Experience with diagnostics via computer-controlled systems is advantageous.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
