Lead, Innovate & Advocate for Queensland’s Rural Transport Industry!

The Livestock and Rural Transporters Association of Queensland (LRTAQ) is seeking a proactive Chief Operating Officer (COO) to manage operations, strengthen industry relationships, and advocate for members, all while working under the guidance of the Management Committee.

About LRTAQ:

The Livestock and Rural Transporters Association of Queensland (LRTAQ) is the voice of the livestock and rural transport industry in Queensland, representing approximately 100 member businesses across the state. We work with governments, regulators, industry groups, and the media to ensure a safer industry with good working conditions and a safe environment for drivers and employees. Our goal is to demonstrate the essential role rural and livestock transport companies play in the economy and the quality of life for all Australians.

About the Role:

As the sole employee and first point of contact for members, you will be responsible for administration, membership management, sponsorship, policy advocacy, and event coordination—including delivering the Annual Conference. The COO will report to and work under the guidance of the Management Committee to ensure alignment with the strategic goals and objectives of LRTAQ. This is a full-time, remote role with occasional regional travel (approximately every three months) for Management Committee meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day administration and governance of the Association.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members, sponsors, and stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on livestock and transport industry issues and provide strategic advice.
  • Manage correspondence, membership communications, e-newsletters, and social media.
  • Coordinate and facilitate quarterly Management Committee meetings and teleconferences.
  • Plan and execute the Annual Conference, managing logistics, speakers, and sponsorships.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Based in South East Queensland (preferred) with experience in business operations or association management.
  • Strong administration, database management, and financial processing skills (Xero experience preferred).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with stakeholder engagement experience.
  • Event management experience, including conference planning and execution.
  • Knowledge of government structures, industry policy, and advocacy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Current driver’s license and willingness to travel regionally as required.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape the future of Queensland’s livestock and rural transport sector.
