Yarra Valley Estate is offering a unique opportunity for a talented chef, preferably with a horticultural background, who is up for a challenge to create menues using elements from our onsite Edible Forest. If you are passionate and looking for something different please apply? 

 We are an award-winning conference, wedding and events venue and are home to Victoria's only commercial Edible Forest. We host conference clients from across Australia and the world, in a range of different industries, as well as an array of exciting events.

You will work closely with our Edible Forest garden team to forage fresh produce from our food forest. Enjoy creating dishes with unique flavors for our onsite guests. Our team also spends time preserving and making teas, jams, cordials, sauces and other products that we sell to the public on site and to enhance our menus. There is the opportunity to run cooking classes and preserving workshops with visitors and guests.

As the Chef.

  • You will have the opportunity to craft outstanding dishes, including pastries, desserts, bread and more.
  • Work with outdoor kitchen cooking equipment, including wood-fired oven, rotisserie, large flat top, and jug grill.
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef to create menus tailored to our clients needs.
  • Manage multiple functions simultaneously while maintaining exceptional time management and consistency.
  • Utilize your knowledge of herbs, spices, fruits, vegetables, and preservation methods to elevate our culinary offerings.
  • In addition, this role will be involved in building and evolving our Edible Forest and Garden, in particular being involved with cooking classes.

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Ready to deliver creativity in every dish.
  • Having horticultural background a big plus.
  • Experience in pastry, dessert, and breadmaking, with knowledge of wood-fired pizza ovens a bonus.
  • Proficient in butchery, stock preparation, and understanding a method of cookery, timing, and temperatures.
  • Knowledgeable about food safety, hygiene, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace.
  • Skilled in time management and capable of juggling multiple functions at once.
  • Passionate about preserving and working with seasonal ingredients.
  • Passionate about onsite grown produce to create menus
  • A passion for sustainability, local produce and an interest in current trends
  • A strong customer focus
